Holger Henke

Dr. Henke received his M.A. in Political Science (with Communications Sciences and Modern German Literature minors) from the University of Munich. He subsequently moved to Jamaica where he obtained a Ph.D. in Government from the University of the West Indies.

Academic Interests

My Ph.D. in Government was earned with a dissertation about Jamaica’s foreign relations between 1972 und 1989. I study international relations (Caribbean, Europe, USA, and Asia), migration, (political) culture and development (political economy). As an author and (co-)editor I have published six books and numerous refereed articles. My most recent book (co-edited w. Karl-Heinz Magister) was “Constructing Vernacular Culture in the Trans-Caribbean” (Lanham, MD: Lexington Books 2008). I also serve as the managing editor of the peer-reviewed journal “Wadabagei: A Journal of the Caribbean and its Diasporas.”
During 2009-2011 I served as the Vice-President and President of the Caribbean Studies Association (CSA), which in 2011 held its annual conference from May 30-June 3, in Curacao.
In 2013 I received a Fulbright (International Education Administrators – U.S./United Kingdom) award.   In June 2014, I participated in the Harvard Institute for Management and Leadership in Education (MLE).
